8 Weeks Out: Plan and Estimate
Start by writing down your target moving date and the type of home you are moving into. Even a rough plan makes it easier to request accurate estimates.
- Request written estimates from at least two local moving companies
- Decide what stays, what goes, and what gets donated or sold
- Start a moving folder for receipts, quotes, and lease documents
6 Weeks Out: Declutter Room by Room
The less you move, the faster and cheaper the move gets. Work through one room at a time and set aside items for donation, sale, or disposal.
4 Weeks Out: Notify and Transfer
Update your address with the post office, banks, insurance carriers, and any subscriptions. Schedule utility transfers for your move-in date so you are not without power or internet on day one.
2 Weeks Out: Pack Non-Essentials
Pack items you rarely use first: seasonal clothing, decor, books, and extra kitchenware. Label every box with the destination room and a short list of contents.
Moving Week: Final Prep
Confirm arrival time with your movers, set aside essentials for the first night, and take photos of electronics before disconnecting them so reassembly is straightforward.
