Pricing Guide

How Local Moving Pricing Works

Straightforward guidance on what shapes the cost of a local move and how Sauk Valley Moving Co. builds a written estimate. No gimmicks, no hidden fees, no fake flat rates.

What Drives the Cost of a Move

Six factors account for most of the difference between one move and the next.

Size of the Move

The volume of furniture and boxes drives crew size, truck size, and time on site. A studio apartment moves faster than a four bedroom home.

Distance

Short in-town moves take less drive time than moves between Sauk Valley communities or out to Rockford, DeKalb, or the Illinois Valley.

Access and Stairs

Stairs, long carries from the truck to the door, elevators, and tight hallways all add time. Ground-floor access with a driveway is fastest.

Heavy or Specialty Items

Safes, exercise equipment, large appliances, and oversized furniture may require extra crew or equipment. Share these during the estimate.

Packing Help

Full or partial packing adds labor and materials. If everything is boxed and labeled before we arrive, move day runs faster.

Day and Timing

End of month, weekends, and summer months book up first. Midweek and midmonth dates often have more scheduling flexibility.

How to Plan a Realistic Budget

01

Start With a Detailed Inventory

List rooms and the major items in each. Note anything heavy, fragile, or oversized. The more accurate the inventory, the more accurate the estimate.

02

Confirm Access at Both Ends

Share stair counts, elevator reservations, parking, and any long carries. Access details are one of the biggest drivers of on-site time.

03

Decide What You Are Packing

Full pack, partial pack, or self pack changes both labor and materials. Kitchens and fragile items usually take the longest to pack.

04

Plan a Small Buffer

Even well planned moves run into surprises. A modest buffer in your budget covers extra time, materials, or a specialty item that needs care.

Common Pricing Questions

Do you publish flat rates online?

No. Every move has a different mix of inventory, access, distance, and timing. Publishing a single flat rate would be misleading. We provide a written estimate based on your specific move.

Is the estimate the final price?

The written estimate is based on the information you share. If move day conditions match, the price matches. Significant additions or access changes are reviewed with you before extra time is billed.

Do you charge a travel or trip fee?

Travel to and from your address is part of the job and is included in your written estimate. There are no hidden trip fees added after the fact.

Are there extra charges for stairs, heavy items, or long carries?

These are considered when the estimate is built, not surprises after the fact. Share access details and heavy items when you request an estimate.

What payment methods do you accept?

Accepted payment methods are confirmed in your written estimate before move day. There are no last-minute surprises about how to pay.

How can I keep my move affordable?

Pack ahead, label boxes by room, disassemble beds and simple furniture, reserve parking, and be ready when the crew arrives. Every minute saved on move day keeps costs down.
