Frequently Asked Questions

Answers about scheduling, pricing, packing, move day, specialty items, and where we work. If you do not see your question below, call (815) 200-1207 or request an estimate.

Booking and Estimates

How far in advance should I book?

Book as soon as you have a target date. End of month, weekends, and summer fill up first. Short-notice moves are sometimes possible depending on crew availability.

How do I request an estimate?

Call (815) 200-1207, email hello@saukvalleymoving.com, or fill out the estimate form and a local team member will follow up with a written estimate.

What information should I have ready?

Move date, both addresses, a room-by-room inventory of major items, notes on stairs or elevators, and any heavy or specialty items. The more detail you share, the more accurate the estimate.

Do you require a deposit?

Deposit requirements are confirmed with your written estimate before the date is held. There are no surprise charges added later.

Can I change my move date after booking?

Reach out as soon as you know a date needs to change. We do our best to accommodate reschedules based on crew availability.

Pricing

How is pricing calculated?

Local moves are priced based on crew size, truck size, estimated time, and access. Every move gets a written estimate that reflects the specifics of your job.

Do you publish flat rates online?

No. Publishing a single flat rate would be misleading because every move is different. See our pricing guide for a full breakdown of what shapes the cost.

Are there hidden fees for stairs, long carries, or heavy items?

No. These details are considered when we build the estimate, not billed as surprises after the fact. Share them when you request an estimate.

What payment methods do you accept?

Accepted payment methods are confirmed in your written estimate before move day.

Services

What services do you offer?

Residential and apartment moves, local moves within the Sauk Valley, loading and unloading, packing help, storage-unit moves, small office moves, senior moving assistance, single-item furniture moves, and labor-only help.

Do you offer packing services?

Yes. We can pack a full home, focus on the kitchen or fragile items, or take a partial approach based on what you need.

Do you provide boxes and packing materials?

Yes. Boxes, tape, and packing paper can be included in the estimate when requested. Specialty crating is not offered at this time.

Do you handle long-distance or interstate moves?

Our focus is local moves within roughly 60 miles of the Sauk Valley. Long-distance requests are reviewed case by case.

Move Day

What time does the crew arrive?

Arrival windows are confirmed the day before your move. If timing needs to shift, we will contact you as soon as we know.

How long will my move take?

An estimated time range is included in your written estimate based on the inventory and access details you provide.

Should I be present during the move?

Yes, or a designated adult should be. Someone needs to walk the crew through both locations, point out priority items, and confirm placement.

What if it rains or snows on move day?

We work in most weather. Extra care is taken to protect floors and furniture in wet conditions. If safety is a concern, we will contact you to discuss options.

What if something is damaged?

Let the crew know before they leave the site and follow up with our office so we can address it directly. We take damage seriously and want to make it right.

Specialty Items and Equipment

Do you move pianos, safes, or gun safes?

Some specialty items can be moved depending on size, weight, and access. Mention them when you request an estimate so the right crew and equipment can be planned.

Do you disassemble and reassemble furniture?

Basic disassembly and reassembly of common furniture can be included when approved during the estimate. Specialty items are reviewed case by case.

Do you move large appliances?

Standard household appliances can usually be moved. Disconnecting or reconnecting gas, water, or electrical is not part of our service.

What size trucks do you use?

Yes. Depending on the type and size of the move, the appropriate moving vehicle is arranged as part of the job. The details will be reviewed during the estimate process.

Service Area

What areas do you serve?

Based in the Sauk Valley and serving communities within roughly 60 miles, from Rockford and Belvidere east to DeKalb and Sycamore, south through Rochelle, Mendota, and the Illinois Valley, west to Fulton, Clinton, and Savanna, and north to Freeport.

Do you charge extra for driving between Sauk Valley towns?

Drive time is included in your written estimate. There is no separate trip fee added later.

Can you move me from a storage unit into a new home?

Yes. Storage-unit to home moves are common. Confirm gate access, hours, and unit numbers when you request an estimate.
