How to Pack Fragile Items So Nothing Breaks in Transit

Most in-transit damage traces back to two things: too little cushioning inside the box, or too much empty space that lets items shift. Pack fragile items with both problems in mind and breakage becomes rare.

Use the Right Boxes

Dish-pack cartons have thicker walls and are sized for kitchenware. For glassware and stemware, cell dividers keep pieces from touching each other during the drive.

Wrap Individually, Then Bundle

Wrap each plate, bowl, and glass on its own with packing paper. Stack plates on edge rather than flat, which is far less likely to crack under pressure.

Fill Every Void

A packed box should not rattle when shaken gently. Fill gaps with crumpled paper or soft goods like dish towels so nothing shifts on the truck.

Electronics and Artwork

Photograph cable configurations before unplugging. Frame corners take the brunt of most damage, so wrap artwork corners first, then the full frame, and load pieces standing on edge between padded furniture.

Frequently Asked

Are used boxes safe for fragile items?

Used boxes lose structural strength quickly, especially after being stored in a garage or basement. For fragile loads, new dish-pack cartons are worth the small extra cost.

Can the movers pack my fragile items for me?

Yes. Packing services can be scoped to just the kitchen and breakables if you plan to pack the rest of the house yourself. Ask for it in your written estimate.
